Mauritanian Kiffa beads are rare powder glass beads named after the Mauritanian city of Kiffa. Kiffa beads as a rule had their peak in production roughly in the 1940's with a dramatic decline into the 60's and ending almost completely in the 1970's with the collapse of the nomadic lifestyle with the terrible droughts of the 1970's.
These are all authentic old beads but some typical wear and repair what is to be expected, please look at photos, one bead has some paint coming off and some others have been slightly touched up. This type of strand is almost impossible to find in the market coming out of Africa anymore, these have come from old collections.
The necklace is 17 ins / 43 cms long
