A wonderful pair of gold Turkmen earrings that have ancient stylistic roots. The twisted gold wires and granulated ends are reminiscent of ancient Rome and Byzantium. The ear hooks are gilded silver but all parts of the body are gold. (tested)
Length with hooks 5cms, w/out hook 3.5 cms. Weight of both 8grms.
Coral had an important protective function. The rough blue stones embedded in the earrings are saphires, as they are not glass and saphire is found in Afghanistan.
