A fine cotton Ewe kente cloth from the mid 20th Century. Made by the master weavers of Ghana - The Ewe.
These very special cloths were woven for chiefs and elders to wear. The amount of skill in this weaving is extraordinary. The floating weft geometric patters are all different, so the amount of skill and time in this cloth would have made it extremely valuable, akin to family jewels. They are thin handwoven strips. A cloth like this would take many months to make as a commission for a high ranking man.
The cloths can of course make wonderful hangings or bedspreads. The art in the variations of pattern could match the finest Western artist.
In perfect condition, some very minor small faded marks in a small area.
